Speaking Chinese is complied for non-native
speakers of Chinese, who intend to learn spoken Chinese
for the purpose of staying for while in China, or coming
to China for a short visit, or on a brief business trip.
The book consists of two volums. Book One, Everyday
English, teaches the basics of the Chinese Phonetic system,
common words and sentence structures. Book two,
Commercial Chinese, covers general knowledge of business
and trade, and activities involved in doing business in
China.
Speaking Chinese aims to combine language
learning with helping the leaner get familiar with Chinese
history and culture. The contents of the two book are carefully
arranged according to their complexity, ensuring that the
learner can understand and command Chinese with little difficulty.
Each text in the two books consists of three parts: Text,
New words, and Exercises. The texts are situational dialogues.
To make it easit for the learner to understand and speak
correct and fluent Chinese, each text has both English and
Japanese translations, a picture, and a list of new words
with phonetic transcriptions. Tapes to the text are read
by well-known announcers of Shanghai Broadcast Station.
