Assignment (Parents + Students)

ReadPhonics has four different levels and each level consists of more than 18 books. First of all, assign students specific number of pages for their daily study.

It is recommended to assign 5-10 pages/day for elementary school students and 10-15 pages for high school students.

Adjust Study Level (Parents)

According to the student's grade level and ability, parents can adjust the passing score, vocabulary test level, and the test format.

Read Stories (Students)

Multi-functional dictionary (aka Click-to-Define Dictionary)

Click on any words. You will see their definitions, example sentences, and relevant pictures, and hear their accurate pronunciations. By clicking on <?>, students can continue to look up words within the definition. Accurate pronunciations and relevant pictures help students learn and memorize each vocabulary effectively. Learning vocabularies within context will help students remember and apply them more effectively.
This feature motivates reading for students, who are tired of looking up dictionary frequently. With this special feature, students will read stories without interruptions or pause. Soon, they will learn to love reading.

Vocabulary Test

At the end of each chapter, students are required to take a vocabulary test. Parents can set the test format as either Definition Test or Spelling Test.

Also, parents can set appropriate Passing Score for the students. Students have to repeat the test unless they score higher than Passing Score.

Number of vocabulary Test

Level One 3,461   Level Three 5,397
Level Two 5,945   Level Four 6,090   Total: 20,893

Comprehension Review

Each chapter consists of a comprehension review after reading. Without an attentive reading, students will not be able to answer the questions correctly. The questions are written by teachers and professors from distinctive universities (including our project adviser Prof. Juliette Wells.) The review questions are in multiple choice format for levels 1 and 2, and true/false question format for levels 3 and 4. Answers to true/false questions also provide meaningful and helpful explanations. These explanations are also written by qualified question writers. Many books in levels 3 and 4 are difficult for many bilingual students to
comprehend; however with the help of the explanations, students will be able to learn hidden meanings and gain insights on the literary works. Again, students cannot go to next chapter without answering the questions correctly. This section will reinforce students understand each book thoroughly.
  Number of Comprehension Test

Level One 1,316   Level Three 1,796
Level Two 2,244   Level Four 2,734   Total: 8,090

ReadPhonics Word Puzzle

Continuous and frequent review and repetition are the best ways to build one's vocabulary.

Have the students invent their own ways of memorizing vocabularies. My Vocabulary function in ReadPhonics enables students to create their own list of vocabularies. Students can return to this list at any time and review them over and over again.

Writing Practice (Students)

At the end of each chapter, students are asked to write a paragraph/essay upon the topic questions written by English literature scholars. Starting from paragraph writing in level 1 and 2, students will be able to write a five-paragraph essay later on. This section will be very useful preparation for SAT writing section.

In addition to above features in the software, ReadPhonics also provides Mail-In Writing Lesson and On-line Writing Lesson for students who want specific and personal evaluations from experts.

Please refer to On-line Writing Lesson page for more information.
  Number of Comprehension Test

Level One 299   Level Three 339
Level Two 368   Level Four 482   Total: 1,488

Checkpoints (Parents)

Parents are able to review students' progress and performance under <Checkpoints> option. Study hours, test results, and written exercises are available for review.

Check their progress daily or weekly and encourage them to continue reading.

On-Line Writing Lesson (Parents + Students)

Please encourage students to complete the writing section at the end of each chapter and send them to ReadPhonics. The On-line Writing Lesson (or Mail-in Writing Lesson) is designed to evaluate and instruct students so they can improve their writing skills. With the evaluators' personal comments, students will be able to see their common mistakes and weaknesses. Also, comments for parents (in Korean) will provide key information on how parents can instruct their children more effectively. Refer to On-line Writing Lesson for more information.

By following ReadPhonics study strategies, students will be able to read books, study vocabulary words, improve reading comprehension, and develop strong writing and communication skills.
