EZPhonics Registration
 

This is the EZPhonics Registration Reminder screen. The first time you click on the EZPhonics icon, you will see this reminder to register your program. You must register your program to use EZPhonics beyond the 15 times of the grace period. To register, click <Register Now>.

EZPhonics can easily be registered over your internet connection. Simply type in your Product Serial Number, found on the front of your installation CD box. Type in your user name, and click <Register OnLine>. Your new unlock code should appear after a few moments. Once you have received your Unlock Code, you may click <OK> to finish the registration process and to continue to the main program.

EZPhonics works best when run on Windows XP. If you are running an older version of Windows, you will need to download extra components in order to use some features of EZPhonics, including Phone-Tutoring and Online Registration. Click <Download> to access these components.

NOTE: EZPhonics is not compatible with Windows 95 or earlier.


EZPhonics is licensed for use on a limited number of computers. If you have exceeded the permitted number of registrations, you will need to first uninstall the program from an old computer before installing on your new computer. This screen will tell you if a prior installation of the program has been detected, and will help you in uninstalling the program, if necessary.
To uninstall EZPhonics, go to the Options Menu, found on the Main Menu.

EZPhonics User Manual


This is the User Menu for EZPhonics. To create a new user, first click on a star, and then type a unique user name in the box provided. Click <OK> to create the new user. Once created, you may click on your user name to enter the program as that user. To delete a user, position your mouse over the star on the left-hand side of the screen, corresponding to the user you wish to delete. The word 'Delete' will appear. Click <Delete> to remove the user from your program.
NOTE: Deleting a user will remove all lesson information from your computer. This operation is irreversible.

EZPhonics is designed to work best at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. If you are unable to see the entire screen easily, you will need to adjust your resolution accordingly. Click on the <Adjust Screen Size> icon, in the upper left-hand corner, to do so.

Clicking <Change Size> begins the resolution adjustment program. Select the appropriate resolution for your monitor. Consult your monitor's manual for more information.


Main Menu

Once you have selected your User Name, you will proceed directly to the EZPhonics Main Menu. You may choose from any of the following lessons or menu choices:
1) Phonics (Including Alphabet)
2) Spelling
3) Reading
4) Phone-Tutoring
5) Word-Challenge
6) Options
7) Exit

Table of Phonics

Clicking on the <Phonics> icon in the main menu will take you to the 'Table of Phonics.' This is the master list of all Alphabet and Phonics lessons in the EZPhonics program. To begin a lesson, simply click on the name of the lesson you wish to study, and the lesson will begin. To return to your most recently completed lesson, click on the <Continue> button, found at the upper right-hand corner of the page. To return to the previous menu, click <Main Menu>.

Phonics Study (Alphabet, Consonant & Vowel)

Upon selecting an element of phonics to study, you will be taken to the Phonics Study page, where you will be introduced to several words making use of the letter or phonetic blend selected. You will see a picture of the word and the word spelled out. To hear the word correctly pronounced, simply click on the picture of the word you wish to hear. When you have finished reviewing these examples, click <Next Page> to continue.

Phonics Quiz 1

  
Phonics Quiz 1 reinforces the relationships between the written word, the sound, and the graphic representation. To complete the quiz, click on a word, and click on the corresponding picture.

Phonics Quiz 2&3

Phonics Quiz 2: Click on the picture of the word that does NOT begin with the topic letter.

Phonics Quiz 3: Listen to the word, and click the corresponding picture.

 

Phonics Memory Quiz

EZPhonics Memory Quiz:
1. The words and their corresponding pictures will appear jumbled on the screen.
2. The pictures will disappear, covered by ReadPhonics logo.
3. Click on a word, then click on the square where you think the corresponding picture hides.
4. The quiz ends when all pictures have been discovered.

Spelling Menu

Clicking on the <Spelling> icon in the main menu will take you to the EZPhonics Spelling Menu. Within the spelling menu, lists of vocabulary/spelling words are listed in three different formats: Homonyms, Synonyms and Antonyms, and Group Words. Click on a lesson type to begin studying. You may also click <Back to Main Menu> to return to the previous menu.

Group Word Table & Study

Clicking on the <Group Word> icon in the Spelling Menu will take you to the 'Table of Group Words.' This is the master list of all thematically linked word groups in the EZPhonics program. To begin a lesson, simply select the lesson you wish to study, and the lesson will begin.

  
To return to your most recently completed lesson, click on the <Continue> button, found at the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Group Word Quiz

Once you have studied the thematically-linked words of a section, you will take a vocabulary quiz, in which you link each word to its correlating picture.

Antonym & Synonym Table

Clicking on the <Antonym & Synonym> icon in the Spelling Menu will take you to the 'Table of Antonyms and Synonyms.' This is the master list of all word pairs and opposites in the EZPhonics program. To begin a lesson, simply select the lesson you wish to study, and the lesson will begin. To return to your most recently completed lesson, click on the <Continue> button, found at the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Antonym & Synonym Study

To study Synonyms and Antonyms, simply click on a word, and you will hear a pronunciation of the word, a picture, the definition, and a number of synonyms or antonyms. When you have finished studying, continue by clicking <Next Page>. To return to a previous page, click <Previous Page>, and to go back to the table, click <Return to Table>.

Antonym & Synonym Quiz

The Antonym & Synonym Quizzes present four word-pairs. In the Synonym Quiz, one of these word-pairs is not a synonym. Find the one that is incorrect. In the Antonym Quiz, one of the word pairs is not an antonym. Find the pair that does not belong.

Homonym Study

The Homonym Study page is a simple list of words that sound the same, but are spelled differently and have entirely different meanings. Study the words by clicking on them to hear their sounds, to see their pictures, and to read their definitions.

Reading Menu

The Reading Menu contains the different primers and stories available in EZPhonics, as well as the typing practice test. The reading levels are listed in order of difficulty, from the basics of Primer One, to the more challenging Aesop's Fables. Each book builds on concepts learned in the book before, so it is recommended that you follow them in order.

Reading Table

The Table of Books lists the lessons or stories for the book selected, along with scores for any assignments that have already been completed. On the far right-hand side of the screen is the list of short writing assignments.

  
By clicking on a completed writing assignment, it is possible to view your response.

Reading

Once you have selected a chapter, the pages of the book will appear in the left-hand window of the screen. To scroll up and down, use the arrows in the middle of the page. To hear the page read aloud, press the audio icon. If you are stuck on a word, and would like to learn the meaning or hear the correct pronunciation, double-click on the word, and the built-in dictionary will provide you with the audio pronunciation, picture, and text definition.

Comprehension Test

Having completed a reading section, you will take a short, multiple-choice test over the material. Click on the number of the correct answer.

Word Study

The Word Study section reinforces the vocabulary words used in the story. Click on a picture to hear the word pronounced out loud.

Reading Table

Having studied the words in the story, you will take three types of vocabulary tests. Vocabulary Test One connects the sound of a word with its picture. Vocabulary Test Two connects the sound of a word to its written form.

  
Vocabulary test three requires you to spell the word correctly, beneath its corresponding picture.

Dictation Test

In the dictation test, you will listen to a sentence from the story you have read, and then you will type the sentence into the boxes provided. To begin the test, click <Begin Test>. To hear the sentence again, click <Repeat Sound>.

Sentence Structure

In Primers One and Two, the Writing section is replaced by a point-and-click sentence-creator. By selecting words from the choices provided, you will learn the basics of sentence structure and word agreement, preparing you for the writing section of Aesop's Fables.

Writing

In Aesop's fables, you will be asked to write a short answer to a topic question presented at the top of the screen. To write your answer, simply click on the box titled "My Writing" and type into the white box. When you are finished, click <Close>; or, if you are enrolled in Phone-Tutoring, and you are connected to the internet, click <Send to Tutor>.
The Words of Fortune

After completing a number of reading lessons, you will have the opportunity to play "The Words of Fortune."
Step 1: Click <Begin Puzzle> to start playing.
Step 2: Click <Spin> to begin spinning, and press <Stop> to determine the number of points each letter will be worth.
Step 3: Click on a letter. If your letter is found in the puzzle you will receive the number of points in the Spin Box, multiplied by the number of letters found.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3 until you have solved the puzzle.
Step 5: If you know the answer to the puzzle, you may click on <Solve the Puzzle to type it into the spaces provided.
Step 6: Once the puzzle has been solved, click <Next Puzzle> to move on to the next.

Phone-Tutoring Registration

To register for Phone-Tutoring, you must first register for the program. If this is your first time signing in with Phone-Tutoring, fill in your serial number, a User Name and Password, and click <New Registration>. If you have already registered, after you have typed your user name and password, simply click <Sign In>.

To register a new user, fill in the information required on this page.

Tutoring Option & Schedule Setup

Select your Tutoring Options and a schedule that fits with your busy life.

Tutoring Policy Agreement

By clicking <I Agree>, you agree to be bound by the terms of the Phone-Tutoring Policy Agreement.

Payment Information

Enter your payment information to complete your Phone-Tutoring Registration. When you have finished, you should see a window that says, "Your registration is complete. Your Phone-Tutor will be assigned within 48 hours."

Phone-Tutoring Information

This is the main Phone-Tutoring Information screen. Use this screen to view messages from ReadPhonics and from your personal Phone-Tutor, to see your Phone-Tutor's picture, to view your lesson schedule, and to manage your Phone-Tutoring Account. Click <Check Status> to begin. You may select either Phonics lessons or Reading lessons. Begin at this screen when it is time for your scheduled lesson.

Tutor's Award

Your tutor may send you awards for doing well on your lessons. These awards accumulate, and after collecting ten large awards, you will receive a surprise gift from ReadPhonics!

Send Mail to Tutor

If you ever need to get in touch with your tutor, or with Sun Tendy USA, you may do so through the "Send Message" feature of the Phone-Tutoring menu. Simply select the recipient of your message, type your message in the space provided, and click <Send Message>.

Phonics Tutoring

The Phonics Tutoring section of Phone-Tutoring reinforces the Phonetic concepts learned in the Phonics section of EZPhonics. The 'Table of Phonics' works in much the same way as the table in the Phonics section of the program, but the lessons are conducted somewhat differently, directed by your personal Phone-Tutor.

Phonics Lesson 2: Read each word aloud, as your tutor listens. Click <Next Page> to continue.

Reading Tutoring

The Reading Tutoring section of Phone-Tutoring expands upon the reading section of EZPhonics. The 'Table of Phonics' works in much the same way as the table in the Reading section of the program, but in this case, the writing/sentence building activities you have done are sent to your tutor for evaluation, to help you improve your writing faster than ever.

 

Reading Lesson 1: Listen to your tutor read the vocabulary words, and repeat.
Reading Lesson 2: Read the lesson/story aloud as quickly and clearly as you can, as your tutor listens.
Reading Lesson 3: Write sentences or use the sentence builder to create sentences which you will then read to your tutor.

Talking about your writing

After you have finished your writing or sentence-building exercises, you will discuss what you have written with your tutor. The tutor will make suggestions and help you improve your writing, helping you set goals for your next lesson.

VisionWork Challenge Word, Registration

  
To participate in VisionWork Challenge Words, you must first register your user name. This will allow your computer to let us know when you have won a contest or a prize.

Contest Menu

From the Challenge Words Main Menu, you may select the type of competition in which you would like to participate. You may choose to play either "The Words of Fortune" or "Challenge Word." A high score in either of these competitions will earn you a prize from ReadPhonics. You will be competing against other students through the internet. To see the current high scores in any one category, select <Review Contest>. You may also play "Spin to Win" from this page, though no prizes will be awarded for the free spins. You must first compete in a contest to win a prize.
(NOTE: You are limited to 10 free spins, 5 times a day.)

Challenge Words

Put your studying skills to the test and win with the EZPhonics Challenge Words! You will compete against other EZPhonics students across the country to win great prizes!

 

1. Select the number of words you wish to challenge.
2. Select your Challenge Category, according to the number of words you have already challenged. (Example: If you have taken the 50 Word Challenge twice, you have studied a total of 100 words, and so you should move up to the 500 Words Club level.
3. Having selected your Challenge Club level, you will go to the starting screen of the challenge. To begin, click <Begin Study>. This will start the timer. Your goal is to get the lowest time possible.
4. Once your timer has started, look over the words you are studying, and click the pictures to hear their sounds and to see their definitions. Click <Next Page> to see the next set of words.
5. Part One Test: Click <Begin Study> to start. You will now be tested on the words you learned. Listen to the word and click the picture that corresponds to that word. If you click the wrong picture, 50 seconds will be added to your elapsed time. Click <Repeat Sound> to hear the word read aloud again.
6. Part Two Test: Click <Begin Study> to start. Listen to the word, and click on the spelling of that word. If you select the wrong word, 50 seconds will be added to your elapsed time. Click <Repeat sound> to hear the word read aloud again.
7. Upon finishing Part Two, your elapsed time will be sent automatically to the ReadPhonics server.

Spin to Win

In addition to the general competition for prizes, after every 50 words you study, you have a chance to win a prize with <Spin to Win>. With this game of chance, you have the opportunity to win many great ReadPhonics prizes, regardless of your score in the Challenge Word competition. You are given 10 spins. If the pictures match, you will win a prize, according to the guidelines on the screen. (Internet Access Required.)

The Word of Fortune

You may also play The Words of Fortune in the Challenge Word section of EZPhonics. For the rules of the game, please see the section on EZPhonics Reading(Page11). When playing The Words of Fortune as a Challenge Word competition, your scores are sent to ReadPhonics via the internet. The three best scores each month will win a surprise gift from ReadPhonics.


Review Contest Result

To view your scores in the Challenge Word and The Words of Fortune categories, select <Review Contest> from the Word-Challenge menu. Select the category you wish to view to see the updated list of scores. For Challenge Word scores, select the <Challenge Category> you are participating in.

EZPhonics Options Menu

The EZPhonics Options Menu provides you with the ability to change settings, download and install added features, and find out more about the ReadPhonics.

CD-Rom Drive Change

To use some of the dictionary features, you will need to use the included Dictionary Picture & Sound CD. To make sure your computer will read the CD correctly, please be sure to check that the drive assigned to your CD-ROM is correct. To do this, insert your Picture & Sound CD into your CD drive. Click <Change CD-ROM Drive> from the Option Menu.

If you see an apple, your CD drive is already correctly assigned. If you do not see the apple:

1. Select the correct drive from the drop-down list.
2. Click <Show>. If you see the apple, click <Exit>. If you do not see the apple, select another drive.
3. Repeat until the apple is visible.

American Heritage Dictionary Installation

o install the American Heritage Dictionary, click <Install American Heritage Dictionary> from the Option Menu.

1. Click <Installation> and click <Continue> from the pop-up window.
2. Type your information and click <Continue>.
3. Type the folder name C:\AHDW and click <Continue>.
4. Select <Microsoft Word> and click <Continue>.
Your installation is now Complete. Click <Return to Windows>.
